Course Description

Better Odds with Independent - In the February 2009 Bar Examination Independent Colleges achieved a 100% Pass rate

  


Independent Colleges Professional Law School offers a fully taught bar review programme for the New York State Bar Examinations. Students who register for this programme have the benefit of exceptional lecturers and the famous MicroMash suite of texts and software. Experienced New York qualified lecturers provide in-class instruction on preparation for the federal and state portions of the New York bar exam. Practice exam questions are set and graded throughout the course with feedback provided directly to each student and mock examinations.

Students also receive detailed outlines on all subjects, important “Bar Exam Alerts” which highlight the most popular topics, a list of mandatory reading assignments and practice essay questions with sample answers. 


New York or California?

Law graduates are generally eligible to sit the New York Bar Exam. Qualified solicitors or barristers are generally eligible to sit the California Bar Examination regardless of whether they hold a law degree.*

*Please note only the respective Boards of Law Examiners of New York and California can make a determination of your eligibility to sit either bar exam and it is your responsibility to apply to the appropriate Board to ascertain your eligibility.

Meet The Lecturers

 

justine quinn sJustine Quinn, LL.B (Dub), LL.M (London School of Economics), Attorney-at-Law (New York), Barrister-at-Law

 

Justine Quinn was a 1999 Entrance Exhibition Scholar at Trinity College from where she graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Laws. She qualified as an Attorney and Counsellor-at-Law in 2004 and has been called to the Bar of New York. She was called to the Bar of Ireland in 2005 and later completed a Masters in Laws at the London School of Economics. She is course director of Independent Colleges' New York Bar programme, and is also lectures on the programme.

 

imelda 2Imelda Kelly, BBLS, Attorney-at-Law (New York), Barrister-at-Law

 

Imelda Kelly graduated from University College Dublin with an Honours Bachelor of Business and Legal Studies degree. She worked for a number of years in the non-governmental sector where she coordinated a law centre for people with disabilities. She was called to the New York Bar in January 2004, and subsequently attended the Honourable Society of King's Inns and was called to the Bar of Ireland in 2005. She spent a year as a legal intern at the office of the Attorney General of Ontario in Toronto. She is a practising barrister, and lectures on Independent Colleges' Honorable Society of King's Inns and New York Bar Review programmes.

Barbara O'Neill graduated with honours with a Doctorate of Law from Nova Southeastern University in 1997 after first receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Texas in 1992.  She was called to the Florida Bar in 1997 and subsequently called to the federal trial bar of the United Stated District Court for the Southern District of Florida in 1998 and the federal appellate bar of the United States Circuit Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit in 1999.  She was a trial lawyer in the United States specialising in mass torts, class actions, product liability, pharmaceutical and medical malpractice litigation in both the state and federal courts for eight years prior to moving to Ireland.  She has also advocated cases in state and federal courts of appeal, including the Supreme Court of the United States.  Since moving to Ireland in 2006, Barbara has worked as a Consultantant Attorney prosecuting medical negligence, product liability, and pharmaceutical claims in the Irish Courts.  She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2008.

Assessment Details

In addition to live lectures, students have the benefit of the excellent MBE Review software which allows students to practice federal multiple choice questions at home. The MBE software custom-designs each study sessions based on a continual assessment of the student’s needs. An at-a-glance summary of the relevant legal principles is provided after each question. The MBE Review Software calculates not only a student’s average score on exam questions but also their average time. Giving you the confidence you need to pass the Bar exam!
