Overview

This ACCA Diploma is suitable for anyone looking to do an introductory qualification in accounting and finance, including school leavers or those already working in account-support roles. The ability level is broadly equivalent to the first year of a degree programme/ HND.

Meet the Lecturers

Sandra Gleeson FCCA DipIFR, IATI

Sandra is a Senior Lecturer with Independent College Dublin and specialises in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. She has lectured to ACCA, CPA, IATI, CIMA and ACA students since 2002. Sandra has an exam focused teaching approach and an ability to simplify the more difficult areas of the subject.

Patrick Carrie BA, MBS, ACCA

Patrick is a qualified ACCA accountant with 10 years experience in a demanding financial services environment. His expertise is in financial analysis and planning, financial reporting, business strategy, computer programming, systems design and improvement, international project management and client relationship management.

Michael Donnelly FCCA

Michael Donnelly has been lecturing accountancy students since 1998 on ACCA and other accounting course. Michael has also lectured for state bodies and other training firms. He has acted in positions of financial controller and director in retail, construction and property development companies since 1996.

Syllabus

Financial Accounting (FFA)

To develop knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and concepts relating to financial accounting and to demonstrate technical proficiency in the use of double entry techniques, including the preparation and interpretation of basic financial statements for sole traders, companies and simple groups of companies.

Management Accounting (FMA)
To develop the knowledge and ability to apply appropriate management accounting concepts and foundations in accountancy techniques for decision making, planning and control including forecasting techniques, the preparation of budgets and standard costs and performance measurement

Accountant in Business (FAB)
To understand business in the context of its environment, including economic, legal, and regulatory influences on such aspects as governance, employment, health and safety, data protection and security. Additionally, to introduce certain aspects of the regulatory framework as they affect auditing and governance, examining the roles of internal and external auditors and introducing the importance of internal control. The syllabus also introduces key management and people issues such as individual and team behaviour, leadership, motivation, personal effectiveness and professional ethics in accounting and business

Foundations in Professionalism

You are required to complete Foundations in Professionalism. This is an online, interactive module, designed to help you develop your understanding of what it means to act professionally and ethically in the work you carry out. You can complete Foundations in Professionalism before or after completing the exam component of the qualification you are aiming to achieve and you only need to successfully complete the module once, even if you decide to complete one or more of the ACCA qualifications. There is no set time allocated to completing Foundations in Professionalism. We encourage you to complete the module at your own pace to allow you to reflect on what you have learnt.

What We Offer

How long will it take to complete?

It's up to you but please note there is a 10-year time limit to complete the exams when achieving the ACCA Qualification. You can sit the exams on demand as computer-based exams or choose to sit paper-based exams in June and December at one of ACCA’s 380 exam centres around the world. You can complete Foundations in Professionalism before or after the exams, so you could complete this Diploma in six to 12 months.

Requirements

There are two routes to achieving this qualification

Route 1

If you do not have any formal qualifications or you have completed the Introductory and/or Intermediate Certificate in Financial and Management Accounting you will need to complete:

* three exams: Accountant in Business (FAB), Management Accounting (FMA) and Financial Accounting (FFA)

*a professionalism and ethics module called Foundations in Professionalism. Please note, if you have already completed this module you don't have to complete it again.

Route 2

If you have qualifications to meet the minimum entry requirements to start your ACCA Qualification, you can achieve the Diploma on the way to gaining your ACCA Qualification. You will need to register as a student on the ACCA Qualification and complete:

*the first three exams of the ACCA Qualification. These are: F1, Accountant in Business, F2, Management Accounting and F3, Financial Accounting.

*a professionalism and ethics module called Foundations in Professionalism
