What We Offer
Our service was developed and launched in 2010 as a direct response to a period of almost unprecedented and sustained financial market turmoil. This has resulted in a major decrease in asset values since 2007 and the destruction of private individual's wealth.
In the marketplace for financial services that existed in Ireland over the past 10 years, financial and property advisers had a vested interest inflating asset prices, through the benefit to them of higher commissions. In many cases the customer was the loser in this arrangement, who after taking all the investment risk did not realise a return. Indeed in many investments clients suffered partial or complete loss of their invested capital.
Therefore there is now real demand for individuals to take ownership of their own investment portfolios and financial decision making.
In this new trading environment where the rules of engagement have become unclear, and advice dubious, it is incumbent on the private investor to back themselves and develop their own financial knowledge and skills.
To address this market requirement our lecturers have designed a professional market leading course which will give clients the know how they need to do their own financial trading.
Meet the Lecturers
Charles Ellis
Charles has been trading derivative products for the past 9 years, focusing mainly on the equity, fixed income and energy markets. He is currently General Manager of Dublin based trading firm Novus Futures, and prior to that was a trainer and senior trader with Geneva Trading in their Dublin office. He has designed and lectured in the Diploma in Financial Trading course since its inception, as well as training professional traders in Ireland, the UK and China. Overall he has taught over 200 traders to date on the diploma course including some who have subsequently secured full time positions as traders. Charles holds a Masters in Economic Science from UCD.
Barry McCarthy
Barry holds a BComm. and M.Econ.Sc. from UCD. Since 2001 he has made his living working independently as an active day trader in the financial markets. He has worked previously in Dublin with Geneva Trading, a proprietary trading firm, as well as spending three years working in Gibraltar and two years in Singapore. During this time, he successfully recruited, trained, and financially backed over twenty profitable traders. When teaching, Barry brings his experience as an independent trader to the students by focusing on practical trading strategies and illustrates the theory with practical examples from the markets.
Michael McCarthy
Michael has 11 years experience as a professional derivatives trader both in Dublin and London. He qualified with a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from DCU and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education. He has successfully traded equity indices, fixed interest and commodity products through direct market access for many years. His lectures have a strong emphasis on risk management and he holds the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation from the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP). He also holds a professional licence from Eurex derivatives exchange and still actively trades his own account. He focuses on challenging students to critically question their trading methodologies as they progress through the course to eventually arrive at a clear and robust trading plan that will serve as a base for successful trading.
David Flynn
David has nearly 20 years of experience trading major Equity, Fixed Income, FX, Energy, Precious Metals, Grains, Soft Commodities & Livestock markets. He started out as an entry level clerk in the U.S. 30 Year Treasury Bond Pit at the Chicago Board of Trade in 1993.
