Overview
The MSc in Accounting with Finance programme is intended to equip participants with a solid grounding in the knowledge and skills of finance and accounting, and contextualises such specialist knowledge and skills into the broader business frameworks in which they are applied. This will enable graduates of the programme to operate effectively in management roles in finance, accounting and related areas. It will also serve as an ideal springboard for progressing to study and qualification with specialist professional accounting institutions, should that be a career aspiration for participants, and relevant professional exemptions are being pursued in this context.
For those applicants with a strong background and achievement in professional accounting examinations, some exemption from taught modules will be available. These exemptions will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The design of the programme therefore offers substantial flexibility for learners who are actively engaged in planning the development of their individual career, or who are already in employment and who wish to extend their expertise and accelerate their career options, or those who wish to enhance their immediate employability opportunities.
As they progress through the programme each participant is able to make informed decisions about their growing personal areas of interest and expertise and is able to match these to their professional career intentions.
Additional pathways of specialist study are being added to the post graduate programme framework in order to meet the future needs of different types of organisations and the particular career needs of our post graduate learners.
We have designed our MSc in Accounting with Finance programme to provide participants with a comprehensive post graduate education which is relevant to the present and future needs of the ever changing business environment.
With this in mind our programme focuses on providing each learner with a firm understanding and knowledge of contemporary business accounting and finance theories, ideas, concepts, problems, practices and functions and which will enable them to consolidate the foundations for their professional career or for their future academic research career.
Programme Structure
The MSc Programme is comprised of six taught modules of 20 credits each, and a dissertation (which includes a research methods component) of 60 credits, making a total of 180 credits for the award of the master's degree.
Teaching Aims
To achieve our teaching aims, great emphasis is placed on:-:
• The importance of meeting the needs of individual learners,
• Directly supporting each participants learning requirements and developing their discipline and subject knowledge,
• Developing individual abilities as these relate to career objectives
The key aspects, skills, creative thinking, critical questioning, problem identification, problem solving, and operational functions of accounting and finance are therefore taught within a highly supportive and enjoyable teaching environment in which learners are:-
• Taught in small classes
• Have individual tutorial support from named tutors
• Are able to share the knowledge which is brought to our teaching by experienced professional business people
• Are able to benefit from the extensive international teaching experience, expertise and excellence of academic tutors who have taught in Ireland, Europe, the United States, Canada, Britain and the Far East.

What We Offer
The programme is aimed at supporting students in their development of strategic, critical and analytical thinking as well as reinforcing the technical and applications skills which are required for the obtaining of professional qualifications. The programme is therefore benchmarked against professional qualifications (such as those awarded by The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, The Institute of Certified Public Accountants Ireland) and current thinking in the areas of strategic management development and Leadership.
MSc graduates will therefore be equipped with a strong academic grounding, highly developed practical and professional skills, and confidence in their ability to enter the workplace and undertake a leading role in formulating the strategic direction of a successful business enterprise.
Requirements
This MSc is suitable for graduates of business, finance or related disciplines. The normal minimum entry requirement is a 2.2 honors degree or higher. Applicants who have a minimum of two years professional experience in a related discipline or who wish to develop their knowledge of accounting and finance at master's level are particularly encouraged to apply.
Business, Business Studies, Business Administration, Finance, or similar field Graduates:
Applicants should have a minimum of a lower second class honours degree in any of the above subject areas. This should be at Level 8 (or equivalent). Qualifications from applicants who are based outside of Ireland will be assessed using the NARIC International Comparison System.
Non-Business field; non-finance field Graduates:
Candidates should have an upper second class honours degree at Level 8 (or equivalent). Students with a lower second class honours degree will be considered but may be requested to attend for interview to ensure that the programme isn . Qualifications from candidates based outside of Ireland will be assessed using the NARIC International Comparison System. This ensures there are equal opportunities for overseas students.
Non Standard Entry Applicants
Applicants who have a minimum of two years professional experience in a related or cognate discipline or subject are also encouraged to apply. This professional experience will be assessed on the basis of the College’s Regulations on Accredited Experiential Learning which may be defined as learning achieved through experience gained by an individual outside formalised learning arrangements where the learning outcomes are open to assessment by the College.
