Careers in journalism have never been so competitive so where you study and train could make the crucial difference to whether you can break into the business. Independent College Dublin has a unique advantage over standard university and IT courses because it is an integral part of the largest multi-media publishing group in Ireland.
The Faculty of Media & Journalism is delighted to present our hands-on, innovative degree programmes. When you study with us, you will find yourself immersed in an exciting mix of practical journalism & media projects alongside engaging and absorbing considerations of the social, political and legal environments in which journalists work. Most importantly, you will be part of a supportive academic community where staff take the time to get to know their students.
Whether you are a student on the BA (Hons) in Journalism or a postgraduate on the MA in Journalism, your practical subjects are taught by experienced lecturers who also happen to be industry professionals, bringing real-world experience and insight into the classroom. Journalism come alive in the hands of our lecturers, whose combined experience ranges across a diverse selection of high-profile media; from RTÉ to Newstalk FM; from The Guardian to Food and Wine magazine. Our team’s expertise is outstanding, and our students feel the benefit of that wealth of experience when they undertake production of their own magazines, films and websites.
Practical projects are an important part of your time with us but so too is learning to understand the world in which journalism is practiced. Provocative and challenging legal and ethical debates, considerations of the future of the media and journalism, discussions about the influence of celebrity on news – whatever your area of interest, you will find lively and engaging analysis form an important part of your study with us.
I look forward to welcoming you to your programme of study, and to seeing your first published work.
