Diploma in Subediting (with Quark Xpress) – Online Delivery

Whether you are already a journalist or copywriter, this course is a six module boot-camp to prepare you for the newspaper and magazine frontline.

Subeditors are responsible for ensuring that the tone, style and layout of final text matches the publication's house style and suits the target market. The work involves processing all stories before publication to ensure they are grammatically and factually correct and read well. Sub-editors also write headings and may be involved with overall page design. Much of this work is carried out by freelancers.

Editors tend not to worry too much about formal qualifications and prefer to 'trial' would-be subeditors on a sink-or-swim basis. If you can do the job then they will ask you back. So wherever possible this course creates a genuine newsroom experience with real-world deadlines and editorial standards, all using the industry-standard QuarkXpress.
